Overview
Central Mongolia is where many of the stories that shaped the country come together.
This is a region of old capitals, ancient monasteries, volcanic landscapes and wide valleys that have witnessed centuries of Mongolian history. Around every corner, there is often something that connects the present with a much older past: from the ruins of Karakorum to sacred mountains and forgotten places along the old routes.
The pace of travel here is slow, and that gives you time to notice the small things: a herd appearing in the distance, an old stone monument beside the road, children riding horses, or a family waving as you pass.
Central Mongolia is also one of the easiest places to experience the contrast between the Mongolia of the past and the country today. History is still visible everywhere, but life continues to move forward.
More than a single destination, Central Mongolia is a place to wander, explore and let the road lead you into the stories of the country.
